Jordin Sparks >> Through The Years
A runthrough of Jordin's life so far...
Ever wonder what Jordin's life was like growing up? How her life story unfolded? Let's take a trip back in time, from her very first words all the way back to the present day and learn just how much Jordin has changed over the years!
1991
Jordin was only 18 months old, but she already was learning how to sing her ABC's! Before she could even talk, Jordin was able to sing
"Jesus Loves Me".
1993
By now, Jordin's father Phillippi is playing professional football and the family has no choice but to move. Eventually, they make it back to Glendale, Arizona where Jordin begins entering her first singing contests.
2002
At 12, Jordin began doing local theater. She was cast in productions such as
"The Wiz,
"Cinderella" and
"A Christmas Carol".
2003
At the age of 13, Jordin already was getting her first taste of reality television. She auditions for American Juniors and Star Search with little luck before eventually making it on
"America's Most Talented Kids", where she wins her episode and is featured in a later round. It isn't long before Jordin gets to work on her first independently released album,
"For Now", and begins singing backup for Christian singer Michael W. Smith on tour.
2006
Having started homeschooling to better focus on her musical aspirations, Jordin auditioned for
"American Idol" in Los Angeles, and initially did not make it through to the judges. Jordin later won a local
"Idol" competition that guaranteed her a spot in front of the judges, and resulted in a very different outcome. Later that year, Jordin sang the National Anthem at the Arizona Cardinals' opening night game in one of her first major performances. Also of note, Jordin won a Torrid plus-size model search contest and was given a full-page ad in
Seventeen magazine.
2007
After winning American Idol, Jordin spent the summer months crafting such hits as
"Tattoo,
" "No Air" and
"One Step at a Time" for her self-titled debut album, while touring the United States and Canada on the
"American Idols Live!" tour. Jordin's first major-label debut album was released on November 20th of that year to rave reviews, and sold upwards of a half-million copies by the beginning of 2008.
2008
After a busy 2007, Jordin's life was about to get a whole lot busier. In a year that saw all three of Jordin's singles and her album reach platinum status, Jordin performed the National Anthem at the Superbowl, toured the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and much of Europe, all the while designing her own clothing line and becoming the new face of Mark by Avon, a cosmetics line aimed at college-age women. Jordin would go on to win an NAACP Image Award, an American Music Award, and capped off the year with a Grammy nod.
Today
Now, Jordin is busy promoting her sophomore effort. What does 2009 have in store for her? We'll just have to wait and see, but if the past couple of years are any indication, Jordin is headed for even bigger and better things!
