Background
Jordin Brianna Sparks was born December 22, 1989 in Phoenix, Arizona. She is a very talented singer, actress, and plus-size model! There has always been some conflict over whether or not she was actually born in Staten Island, New York as many sources state, but her mother
insists that she was born back home in Arizona!
Predominately of mixed African-American and White-European decent, Jordin's parents are
Phillippi and
Jodi Sparks, her father Phillippi is a former NFL player for the New York Giants, and her mother Jodi is a real estate agent. Jordin has one sibling, her younger brother Phillippi Sparks, Jr. also known as
PJ.
Before moving back to Glendale, Arizona where she currently resides with her family, Jordin lived in the town of Ridgewood, New Jersey on Orchard Place. Though she was homeschooled during a large portion of her teens, Jordin attended Orchard School for a short time when her father played Football in New York.
Jordin is a very committed Christian and attends the Calvary Community Church in Phoenix, Arizona.
She has even appeared on the cover of
World, an Evangelical Christian magazine! She listed God and her parents as the people she is most thankful to after winning
"American Idol" back in 2007.
Believe it or not, Jordin has five tattoos that we know of! She got her very first tattoo on her 18th Birthday,
"1 Timothy 4:12" on her left wrist, one of Jordin's favorite bible verses. She has since gotten a tattoo of her brother PJ's name behind her left ear, a small heart on her right ring finger, and a dove on her hip! She also has a tattoo on her back.
Music Career
Jordin regularly performs at Arizona Cardinals, Phoenix Suns and Arizona Diamondbacks games, and has performed at the NBA All Star game, the NBA Finals, and even the Superbowl!
Jordin independently released a five song album titled
"For Now" in 2003, when she was only 13 years old! She recorded it with the help of Matthew Ward and Gary Leach, a producer who has worked with LeAnn Rimes.
In 2007, Jordin released her very first single after winning the talent-show sensation
"American Idol" titled
"This Is My Now"! Shortly thereafter, Jordin began working on her major label debut album, which was later self-titled. It spawned 3 hit singles,
"Tattoo",
"No Air" with Chris Brown, and
"One Step at a Time". Worldwide,
"Freeze" and
"Permanent Monday" also charted.
For the
second studio effort named
"Battlefield", Jordin had alot more time to work on the album, and she worked on it for
about six months and released it on
July 21st, 2009.
In early 2009, Jordin was nominated for
a Grammy award for No Air in the category "
Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals". She lost the category, but attended the event. She went on to perform at a historic event, the Commander-in-Chief's
Inaugural Ball for president
Barack Obama.
Jordin has toured alongside acts such as Alice Cooper, Michael W. Smith, the top 10 from the sixth-season of
"American Idol", and more recently Alicia Keys, Ne-Yo, Jesse McCartney, Jonas Brothers and Britney Spears!
