The time has come for another flashback video. Check out this video of Jordin singing at the Jackie Robinson Foundation 35th Anniversary Awards Dinner back in 2008. Here she sings a cover of Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” and a song she sang on American Idol, “I (Who Have Nothing)”. Enjoy! :)

Jordin Sparks is joing the cast as Nina. What impressed you about her?
Her work ethic. She showed up for her audition able to sing all the parts. She downloaded the entire score in her brain.

How did you decide she’d be right for Nina?
Her energy level. Plus she’s the same age as Nina. It was a natural fit for her.

How is she doing so far?
She’s amazing. She’s really keyed into the musical moments of the show. I think people will be surprised how well she fits into the role. I can’t wait to see her in it.

According to JordinSparks.com, Jordin will be on Fox and Friends, tomorrow Thursday Sept. 2nd. The show airs at 6am pt/et on the Fox News Channel. There is no word on whether she is performing, there for an interview or both. So, tune in if you are an early bird and if not, hopefully a video comes up of her appearance there that we can post later!

Jordin made a new post in her Tumblr, and wrote about opening night of In The Heights, how she sees the cast members as her family, and living in New York! Check it out.

Days go by…

And I cant believe it’s September already! It’s gone by so fast! I’ve been in the show about two weeks now and I’m absolutely loving it! My opening show was just the biggest rush of adrenaline it could be. My mom, dad, Nona and really close friends were there loving every second. It would have made it even more perfect if PJ, Nana & Poppy and my best friends could’ve been there. But all in due time! Everyone has things they have to do too!

Anyway, with the show I couldn’t have asked for a better cast or story to tell! I love going there every night and seeing the familiar faces. They have definitely become like a family to me in such a short time. They funny thing is there’s a birthday every other day so there’s ALWAYS cake. And with me baking like crazy, there’s ALWAYS cupcakes. I think I may start doing it bake sale style. 25 cents-$1.00 depending on how much LOVE is put into it. ;)

If you’ve come and seen the show I hope you’ve enjoyed it! We have so much fun up there getting to perform it for you. The great thing about this experience for me so far, is that I can experiment with the character. I can say ‘what can I bring to the Nina today?’. “What am I going through that can relate to Nina?’ So, even though we’re doing the same story, there’s always something a little different.

As far as being in New York goes, I’m liking it more and more each day. I’m really excited for the changing seasons. Colorful trees, turtle necks, boots, long jeans…but I am getting a little nervous for winter. I don’t do very well with the cold. At all. so we’ll see.

Jordin was originally supposed to perform at today’s “To Mexico From New York” concert but Playbill.com announced today that she will NOT be performing at the concert, due to her injury. We are happy to say though, that this is probably the last cancelled appearance for now since Jordin is getting better and is supposed to go back on ‘In The Heights’ tomorrow! :)

Organized by Broadway actress Bianca Marroquin (In the Heights, Chicago), the 8 PM concert features performances from Tony nominee Tom Wopat (A Catered Affair), Carol Woods (Chicago), Jaime Camil, Tony nominee Brenda Braxton (Smokey Joe’s Café), Raymond Bokhour (Chicago), Roberto Araujo, Eddie Bennett, Dylis Croman, Rosie Fiedleman, Ruben Flores, Gabriela Garcia, Doreen Montalvo, Sharon Moore, Rick Negron and Marcos Santana. (Jordin Sparks, who was originally scheduled to be part of the evening, is unable to perform due to her recent injury.)

Jordin will be returning to “In The Heights” this Thursday, September 2nd. We reported earlier that Jordin had suffered a hip injury that has kept her off the stage for a few days now. We are happy to hear that she is better and will be back in action as Nina Rosario this Thursday!

Jordin Sparks, the “American Idol” finalist who recently made her Broadway debut as Nina in In the Heights, will miss a fourth performance in the hit show Aug. 31. Sparks injured her hip at the evening performance Aug. 28 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.

The injury occurred in Act One, a spokesman said. Sparks finished the Saturday night show but missed both shows Sunday Aug. 29, as well as the Monday Aug. 30 performance. A spokesman for the show said that on doctor’s orders Sparks would also miss the Aug. 31 show.

Sparks will be back on Sept. 2, following the show’s dormant day on Sept. 1, Playbill.com has learned.

As we previously reported, Jordin’s hip is currently injured and she has missed Sunday’s and Monday’s shows on In The Heights because of it, but hopefully she will get back on stage soon! Get well soon, Jo! :)

Jordin Sparks, the “American Idol” finalist who recently made her Broadway debut as Nina in In the Heights, injured her hip at the evening performance Aug. 28 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.

The injury occurred in Act One, a spokesman said. Sparks finished the Saturday night show but missed both shows Sunday, Aug. 29. Understudy Courtney Reed went on. Playbill.com has learned that on a doctor’s suggestion, Sparks will also sit out the Aug. 30 performance.

Sparks, the 2007 winner of TV’s “American Idol,” stepped into another American success story on Aug. 19 when she joined the Broadway cast of In the Heights, the Tony Award winner about the Latino neighborhood of Manhattan’s Washington Heights.
Sparks is making her Broadway debut in the role of college student Nina Rosario, who returns home from Stanford University for the summer — with a secret that shakes the foundation of her family’s American dream. Friends, family and a new love rally around her in the musical portrait of a changing neighborhood where multiple musical styles echo on the streets, spill from the windows and brew in the minds of its eclectic Latino characters.

Sparks will play a limited 12-week engagement through Nov. 14. Creator and Tony-winning songwriter Lin-Manuel Miranda told Playbill.com, “Jordin is an undeniable talent and an incredibly versatile performer. When she came in to audition for the creative team, I knew she’d be able to sing the role of Nina (and does she ever). I was not prepared for how winning and honest an actress she’d be. I can’t wait to see her tear it up with the rest of this amazing company.”

On Saturday night, Jordin tweeted that she had suffered her first Broadway injury. According to her tweet, she injured her hip during Act 1, but managed to finish the show. As a result of this, Jordin did not perform in either show last night and Courtney Reed, who usually plays the role of Carla, stepped in to play Nina Rosario. We definitely wish Jordin a speedy recovery and we hope that she will be able to get back out there on stage healthy and continue to rock the role of Nina. :)
